Nerve Fiber Loss Timeline

Submitted by dave on Sat, 01/20/2007 - 12:38pm

I wonder if it is possible to guess about the rate of progression of my optic nerve damage (in my right eye) using my existing test results. Unfortunately, over the last 2.5 years since my diagnosis, my optic nerve analyses have not all been performed with the same instruments. However, given the available information, I'm wondering if it is possible to guess whether the rate of damage is slowing since the beginning of 2006 or not.

I have had either a GDx or an HRT test on the following dates:

  1. 2004-September-.08 (GDx - older version)
  2. 2006-January-02 (HRT-II)
  3. 2006-December-14 (GDx-VCC)
  4. 2007-January-19 (HRT-II)

Although the tests are different, I wonder if the TSNIT-style images can be roughly compared to determine if more of my optic nerve fiber loss occurred before the test on 2-January-2006 or after this date. My feeling is that more (most) of the optic nerve damage happened in 2005. (However, some damage did happen during 2006. Now that my IOP is much lower -- especially starting 17-Dec-2006 -- I hope not to see any further loss of nerve fiber in 2007.)

But it is important to me to understand when most of the loss occurred. Does anyone want to offer an opinion on whether most of it occurred in 2005 or 2006?
