A Milestone in my glaucoma history.

I walked away from conventional treatment for my Secondary Closed Angle Glaucoma 9.5 years ago. It was a decision that took enormous personal courage as to do so flew in the face of  threats of dire consequences. That only one eye, the right, was at risk made my decision somewhat easier.  I was told that not only would I lose the vision I would lose the eye itself as the result of the pain subsequent to uncontrolled IOP increases.

Well, guess what folks?! It didn't happen, at least not yet. I saw the specialist yesterday. The pressure in the problematic eye today was 20. Over the course of my treatment with 2 separate specialists in the previous 10 years, it had gone as high as 49. Nothing they threw at it had much effect for very long. (This type of glaucoma is really resistant to medical intervention.)

To quote Joyce, "every fibre of my being" knew that a second trab. or still more experimentation with yet another or several new medications was simply and profoundly wrong wrong for me. Knowing where one stands is always salutary even when it is scary and I really knew I was on my own. (I had no idea of the resources available online until recently.) So I trusted my intuition and went where it took me. For the past 10 years, I watched for signs and made changes when they made sense to me. I had many helpful nudges and learned a lot about the eye and the overall harmony of my entire physical system. My plan is to write about some of those insights and tools along the way may be of use to somene else.
