HeartMath: 6 hour effect

Submitted by tedjohnson on Sun, 12/20/2009 - 12:55pm

One of the books on the fiteyes.com reading list, "The Heartmath solution", contained a very interesting graph (p164) from a 1995 experiment where they measured the immune system response (as determined by IgA concentrations) after a 5-minute "anger' episode vs. a 5-minute "care" episode.

The research paper is entitled "The physiological and psychological effects of compassion and anger", and was published in the "Journal of Advancement in Medicine".  A copy of the paper is available here www.aipro.info/drive/File/228.pdf

What are the best nutritional supplements for treating glaucoma?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 12/19/2009 - 12:37pm

What are the best supplements For Treating Glaucoma, or for general Eye health?? I have had glaucoma since 2001, and since last year i have had to increase My Trusopts drops from 2 to 3 per day. I'm very frustrated about this. can You suggest any vitamins that are specifically for Glaucoma or For general eye health? Is there any known reversal for OPTIC NERVE DAMMAGE? Thank you very much for your help. Sincerely John

SLT

Submitted by cooney on Thu, 12/17/2009 - 7:20pm

 Greetings

Has anyone had the SLT (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty)

If so, would you like to share your experiences and impressions?

As I understand it, the operation is quick, very safe, repeatable, and effective. It appears to be a huge improvement over the trabeculectomy (trab). Of course, there is no such thing as a "surgical free lunch"; in addition to ridiculously large financial costs, there are invariably side effects, at least potentially. However, there are problems, as well, with the various medications.

what does it mean if same IOP avg, but std. deviation varies?

Submitted by tedjohnson on Wed, 12/16/2009 - 7:38pm

Consider the following two series of AT555 IOP measurements (both taken from the same eye):

   a) 8:51am:  12,12,17 --- avg. 13.7

  b) 9:00am:  13,14,14  -- avg: 13.7

The first reading shows a much wider variation in IOP (5 points) than the second, however both have the exact same average (13.7).

Q#1: would a Goldman Applanation Tonomoter (which reports average IOP, I believe) have reported 13.7 in both cases?

Question On Low Blood Pressure And Vision

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 12/15/2009 - 2:51pm

Hi! My father has glaucoma, and that is why I joined your site.

After receiving an Ahmed Implant recently, his surgeon advised him to get his vision checked for a new prescription for his glasses. So I took him to my optometrist who during the examination asked my dad if he had low blood pressure. Dad said that he monitors his BP daily and it is always at the low end of the healthy scale for him, and that he has a very low heart beat rate.

Weather and IOP?

Submitted by bstruss on Mon, 12/14/2009 - 9:33am

It's been quite a bit rainy and cloudy the last few days. Anyhow, my pressures have been measuring higher than I have ever seen them on drops during this period (prompting me to make an urgent eye appt). They were measured the highest last evening.  Has anyone else noticed a change in pressures resulting from weather? There may be no connection, but I was just wondering if changes in barametric pressure and degree of sunlight might have something to do with this - because I cannot figure anything else out.

let's go low... carb!

Submitted by jarek on Sun, 12/13/2009 - 4:27am

After unsuccessful trials of ayurvedic and related low fat eating style I decided to switch to low-carb diet. The main reason was that candida, which I suspect is persecuting me, can be starved with this eating style. Polish doctor Jan Kwasniewski explains that this diet is especially successful in fighting the Buerger disease. As weak blood circulation in feet, palms and eyes is correlated, this seems to be a good cure for glaucoma too. Maybe even more for pigmentary glaucoma which can be caused by weak iris, weak from insufficient blood supply.

Interesting IOP experiment

Submitted by bstruss on Mon, 12/07/2009 - 4:34pm

I have tried numerous experiments over the last few months to lower IOP and generally most everything has been a failure. However, I tried something different today and got a statistically significant result. Basically, I sat in my office desk chair, placed my hands on my knees (spreading them). I then proceeded to lean forward and let my head fall down inside my knees. Without much pause, I then leaned backwards until my head went backwards as far as it could and repeated this motion for a count of about 15 times.

Tonometer rentals available?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 12/05/2009 - 1:03pm

Has anyone had any experience trying to rent one for couple of weeks of the kind Dave recommends?

Has anyone had reliable results using the I Care tonometer

What about the Diaton tonometer too?

I understand another type is coming out in the Spring but apparently no certainty and no details on price.

Intro from a newbie

Submitted by dirichs on Sat, 11/21/2009 - 7:01pm

I have been under the care of a glaucoma specialist for many years as a precaution because of strong family history of both this disease and other eye problems.  My vision was always so good that I never was concerned.  Then in 1999 and again in 2000 I had surgery both on eyes for detached retinas.  Thankfully these went well.   I continued my regular consultations with the glaucoma specialist.  My condition remained unchanged over all these years.  I felt all would be OK because I was living a healthy lifestyle, using my drops and getting regular exams.  Then I noticed some vision loss in
