Yoga Study to measure IOP fluctuations

Submitted by jjasien.ganyresearch on Mon, 07/22/2013 - 11:12am
Dr. Ritch and I are currently enrolling patients into our Yoga Study and are looking for glaucoma patients and healthy control patients to participate.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the IOP difference between normal and glaucomatous eyes using standard ophthalmic tonometry devices while subjects are performing different standard yoga asanas. The IOP of participants will be measured prior, immediately at start of the asana, 2 minutes into the asana, and immediately after assuming a sitting position. The patient will wait 10 minutes and a final IOP will be taken. Four standard yoga asanas will be tested (Downward Dog, Forward Bend, Plow and Viparita Karani).

In lay language: We are checking the increase of eye pressure during 4 yoga poses in healthy control patients and glaucoma patients.

If anyone is interested in participating in New York City area, you can call me directly at 212-477-7540 x371 or email me at jjasien.ganyresearch@gmail.com. The study will be about an hour of your participants time.

The study is a New York Eye and Ear Infirmary Institutional Review Board approved study and a Informed Consent Form is required to be completed by all participants. The study will be completed at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, located at 310 E. 14th Street New York, NY 10003
