Ghee for nervous system and eyes health

...Having been diagnosed with glaucoma 2 years ago, only recently I started to to follow ayurvedic health practices to improve generally an aggravated pita/vata condition which is mainly responsible for neurological and vision problems, among others. After just a week of feet and head massage with ghee and using ghee drops in eyes and nose, I already notice general improvement not only in my eye pressure but also in terms of general well being, calmness and softness in the eyes...

I have no doubt the the condition of the liver influences our vision. I think subtle (subclinical) liver issues, such as those picked up by Ayurvedic or TCM pulse diagnosis, can manifest as vision problems.

Regular use of traditional dietary spices such as turmeric in one's cooking may be important for glaucoma patients. The use of complete spices (e.g., turmeric rather than curcumin, which is an isolated fraction of turmeric) is important as well as the use of multiple complimentary spices according to long-established wisdom such as found in Ayurveda. Still, the research backing up anti-oxidant properties of turmeric is a useful read.

 I thought it might be interesting to do a series of profiles on top glaucoma specialists around the world. I was inspired to start this because of my recent visit with Dr. Robert Ritch. He is certainly one of the top glaucoma specialists in the world from a variety of points of view. He is highly respected by his peers and he has been voted "Best Doctor" many times by his patients.

 

Ego and Intraocular Pressure in Glaucoma (was Timeline for reversing glaucoma damage?)

I've never really heard anybody give an educated guess on when we may really have the ability to reverse the damage done by glaucoma.. Whether through stem cells or any other medical advancement ... can anybody reasonably predict a timetable on being able to repair the damaged nerves?

 

I'm especially interested in this because - at 55, and in good health otherwise - I have pretty bad glaucoma. I lost 90% of the vision in my right eye, and maybe 50% in my left before I even noticed any problems.  I sure wish I'd been paying attention ...
