Does reading a computer monitor and feeling eye strain raise your eye pressure?

Question: Does reading a computer monitor for an hour and feeling eye strain raise your IOP?

My Answer: The question of computer use and intraocular pressure is a common topic. Many people report that using the computer (even for several hours) for relaxing activities does not raise intraocular pressure. I have found this to be true for myself as well.

However, when a feeling of eye strain or psychological stress is involved, it is a different issue in my opinion.

Hi, I am Sneha, originally from India and now residing in the US. I was diagnosed with short-sight when I was 14 years of age. I have been wearing soft contact lenses since then. When I turned 23, I got both my eyes LASIK operated in India from a popular eye hospital. I had no problem with my eyes for almost a year. But later on I faced slight eye irritation, redness and sometimes double vision when I sit in front of the computer or when I go outdoors. I am a software engineer by profession which ineveitably requires me to work with the computer for long hours.

Almost every eye specialist you might visit nowadays will confidently answer "of course, not!" Is it so clear? From my personal experience, I learnt that a heavy use of computer (often I spend the whole workday working on the computer) often causes me eye discomfort, pains, and headaches. Therefore, my impression always was that the conventional medicine doesn't have the full answers.
